Ashgabat, June 25, 2025 — A productive meeting was held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Mr. Raşid Meredov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mr. Sergey Lavrov, who arrived in Ashgabat on an official visit.
During the meeting, attended by representatives of both countries’ foreign ministries, the sides discussed key areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Russia in political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian fields.
Both ministers underscored the importance of regular and trust-based dialogue between the leadership of Turkmenistan and Russia, which plays a vital role in advancing bilateral relations.
Minister Lavrov highlighted that constructive dialogue at the highest state level remains a cornerstone of the deepening strategic partnership between the two countries. He also referred to the recent visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Moscow to participate in the celebrations commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The parties noted the significance of the upcoming visit of the National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to the Russian Federation to take part in the 16th International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2025.”
Further discussions focused on the agenda of forthcoming consultations between the two ministries, with exchanges of views on regional and international issues.
The sides acknowledged the fruitful nature of Turkmen-Russian cooperation in multilateral formats, including the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Caspian “Group of Five,” and the “Central Asia – Russia” dialogue platform.
The meeting also featured detailed talks on expanding trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation signed the Cooperation Program for 2025–2026, formalizing the commitment to strengthen bilateral relations.
